6 Easy DIY Halloween Costumes

Running short on time this year on your Halloween costume? Don’t be frightened, there are plenty of scary good items at Goodwill to make a costume yourself, shoes and all, for less than $30! These six DIY, no-sew, no glue, costumes are achievable with just one trip to any Goodwill location. Who knows, some of these items may be available in your own closet.

Costume 1:

  • Raincoat
  • Rainboots
  • Umbrella
  • Black Tights
  • Small Stuffed Animals

For the raining cats and dogs costume, the orange raincoat by Zara Basic was $5.49 (selling for $33 on Poshmark). Paired with leggings and boots, the black leggings by Soma were $4.79 (selling for $24.99 on ThredUp) and the black rubber boots were $7.99 (originally $20.00 at Walmart). Goodwill even has umbrellas, in which the large red one is $5.49. All that’s left are the stuffed animals to place around the umbrella.

 

Costume 2:

Items used:

  • Flapper Dress
  • Strappy Heels
  • Long Beads
  • Long Gloves
  • Mask
  • Feather

For this flapper costume, the top and skirt are new with tags! The sequence black knit top was $6.59 (originally $22.99 at Forever21) and the beaded black shell skirt was $4.79 (originally $54.00 at Francesca’s). To match, the black suede criss-cross heels by Charles David were $7.99 (selling for $33.00 on Mercari). In the new goods Halloween section, there was a 20s set for $9.99 which included lace gloves, beads, headband, bracelet, and holder.

Costume 3:

Items used:

  • Ivory Dress
  • Tan Skirt
  • Brown Belt
  • Horns or Headband

Be one of the Zodiac signs! To become Aries, we found the ivory lace maxi skirt from Cato for $7.99 (selling for $12.00 on Poshmark) and the white long sleeve by Fun and Flirt at $4.49 (selling for $9.99 on ThredUp). Paired with a gold belt from Old Navy for $1.79 (originally $18.00 at Old Navy), the last gold touches are the bow sandals by Vera Wang for $1.79 (selling for $16.83 on Bonanza).To further accessorize, the headpieces from Goodwill’s new goods Halloween section were  $1.89 for the thin gold leaf headband and $2.99 for the thick gold leaf headband. All that’s left are some horns.

Costume 4:

Man dressed as Bob Ross

Items used:

  • Blue Long Sleeve Shirt
  • Blue Jeans
  • Shoes
  • Wig
  • Canvas and Easel
  • Paint Pallet
  • Paintbrush

These three are definite finds in a man’s closet. The blue long sleeve top by Kenneth Cole Reaction was $4.49 (originally $69.95 at Dillard’s) and the blue jeans by Vintage were $8.99 (originally $54.99 on Amazon). Paired with brown suede oxford shoes by To Boot New York for $7.99 (originally $159.99 on Saks OFF 5TH), all that is left is a wig, paint pallet, and paintbrush.

Costume 5:

Items used:

  • Yellow Dress
  • Heels
  • Lei
  • Green Feathers

Another sure-to-find costume at Goodwill or with items in your own wardrobe is a yellow dress. For two options as a pineapple, the yellow skater dress was $5.79 (selling for $22.00 on Poshmark) and the yellow glitter dress was also $5.79 (selling for $50 on Poshmark). Any shoes would work well but these white fringe sandals by BC footwear were $7.99 (selling for $15.00 on Poshmark). Open up that craft closet, and there may be a lei and some green feathers to complete this look.

Pineapple Costume Pieces

Costume 6:

  • Men’s suit
  • Tie
  • White Long Sleeve Shirt
  • Glasses
  • Black Shoes

Who needs a couple’s costume when you have your pet! As a bodyguard, you will need a Men’s white top which was $4.49 at Goodwill (selling for $18.57 online on Land’s End).

The navy blue blazer and pantsuit were $12.78 (originally $516.00 on Hockerty). To match, the black tuxedo shoes were $7.99 (originally $70 at Belk).

The last item, was plain sunshades at $1.79 (originally $9.99 at at Kohl’s). All that your pup will need is a shirt and some shades.
