Arkeith Davis: A CDL Professional Truck Driver Training Success Story

Arkeith Davis struggled for years with incarceration, a negative social environment, a lack of transferable job skills, and ultimately unemployment. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he was out of work and facing even more obstacles to achieving his goal of finding a viable career path.

Arkeith spent months researching career and job skill training programs but became discouraged when everything he found was too costly to pursue with no source of income. Eventually, Arkeith found Goodwill North Central Texas’ career school, the North Texas Institute for Career Development. After meeting with a recruiter and explaining his situation, he received guidance on available funding sources.

“I remember coming into the lobby and explaining my situation. They listened and understood,” Arkeith said. “I knew this was the place to be… everyone cared about me.”

In August 2020, Arkeith enrolled into Goodwill’s Professional Truck Driver Training (CDL) Program, determined to acquire the skills he needed to find a sustainable career. In November 2020, just three short months after enrolling in the program, Arkeith graduated with his CDL license.

In December 2020, Arkeith landed an amazing job opportunity with 4 Son’s Transportation, LLC, working full-time as a driver.  Today, Arkeith is extremely happy in his role and is thrilled to have a steady source of income to support his family.

“Not only was the experience … great, but each instructor provided something different for me,” Arkeith said. “The help and support finding a job online was very important, too. I knew I could pick up the phone to text or call and someone was always there to answer my questions. I mattered.”

Moving forward, Arkeith hopes to use his new skills and license to start his own business and become an Owner-Operator.
