FORT WORTH, TEXAS (December 21, 2017) – Billed as a “Tournament of Excellence,” the Goodwill Classic golf tournament held on Monday, November 6 at the Ridglea Country Club North Course raised $147,800 to benefit Goodwill North Central Texas. The organization helps rebuild countless lives through its job training and placement programs.

All proceeds from the tournament go to support the Moncrief-Ryan Goodwill’s North Texas Institute for Career Development (NTI) and Goodwill’s Workforce Development Program supporting initiatives focusing on the homeless (GoodwillWorks), at-risk youth (E-Squared), veterans (VetWorthy), and individuals with disadvantages and disabilities (S.T.A.R.S.). Since the tournament’s inception in 2008, more than $1.3 million has been given in scholarships, assisting 649 graduates of NTI vocational training programs.

More than 130 golfers, including several former MLB players, participated in the tenth annual tournament. Honorary Tournament Chair Jeff Bland, past Sr. Director, Employee Relations at Radio Shack, emceed the award program. Country Music Hall of Fame artist Charley Pride sang God Bless America and TV personality and Blazing Saddles star Burton Gilliam sang the National Anthem.

“In 2016, 9,994 lives were touched through Goodwill’s Workforce Development Programs,” said David Cox, president and CEO of Goodwill North Central Texas. “Revenue generated through the sale of donated goods and events like the Goodwill Classic support individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment in getting the training they need to achieve maximum independence.”
