FORT WORTH, TEXAS (April 27, 2017) – Goodwill North Central Texas, Inc. announced today that the organization was honored by Goodwill Industries International (GII) as a Center of Excellence at the nonprofit’s spring conference in Houston on April 25.

Goodwill North Central Texas received the award in honor of the organization’s Education + Employment = Success (E2) financial literacy coaching and training services program, and the GoodwillWorks homeless employment initiative. These programs demonstrate the investments Goodwill North Central Texas is making to advance career navigation, financial capability, and inclusion and equitable access for both people the agency serves and employs.

Goodwill Works, an employment initiative targeting clients experiencing homelessness or impending homelessness, provides services like resume and cover letter writing, job search, interview skills and attire, connections to employers and funding for emergency services that prevent employment such as transportation. In addition a mobile recruitment/job placement unit travels to and serves those individuals isolated from public transportation.

GoodwillWorks is innovative in that team member’s focus on the whole person and meet people where they are to support their aspirations,” said Joylin Kirk, senior director of mission services for Goodwill Industries International. “The mobile strategy that brings services to the most vulnerable populations in the Fort Worth territory is impressive.”

Education + Employment = Success (E2) is a program that serves dislocated, out-of-school youth ages 16-24 in need of both a GED and paid work experience. The program seeks to eliminate barriers to employment and education by providing GED preparation by a state-certified Fort Worth ISD teacher, paid work experience through the Work Experience Program, individualized mentoring, life skills and job readiness classes and connections to further education and employment opportunities.
